New Zealand has launched the expression of interest phase for its upcoming online gambling licenses, with submissions closing on 14 August. The regulatory framework requires applicants to demonstrate substantial capital reserves and complete background verification before proceeding to the auction.
Application Requirements and Licensing Limits
The initial review mandates a non-refundable fee of NZ$19,000 alongside documented proof of NZ$7.5M in accessible capital. Operators must submit comprehensive ownership records, executive profiles, platform specifications, and financial and criminal background checks. Any previous regulatory violations must be fully disclosed during this stage.
A total of fifteen licenses will be distributed, with a maximum allocation of three per operator. Successful expressions of interest will advance to a September auction, followed by full license applications in October. The regulated market is scheduled to launch in 2027.
